Surface ASIA Magazine Issue # 1

SURFACE Magazine almost always sparks interest in its ability to showcase, collaborate, and create platforms for undiscovered designers to display their innovative design ideas at a wider audience. I think SURFACE (just like WALLPAPER and LOVE Magazine both of which i adore) is one of the best cultural barometers of DESIGN/STYLE/ART in all its shape, size and form.

Case in point is their new issue. The Avant Guardian issue.

So the good news is that SURFACE has a new brother/sister

it aims ''to be the definitive magazine for all categories of design across Asia-Pacific, bringing you the latest news and insights on the design industries of the region six times a year.''

The magazines objective is to be the platform for DESIGNERS, specifically in ASIA, leading the trends and reshaping the creative landscape, and establish a forum in which regional designers can exchange ideas, gain inspiration and collaborate on projects.

Im so happy to be part of the pioneer issue of SURFACE ASIA! We did the shoot for Puey Quinones for his feature in the magazine. The feature was written by Jae Pickrell (who was introduced to me in Fashion Week by Mark Buenaobra, who incidentally shot the feature of Kermit Tesoro inside). Together with Puey - Gian Romano, Ivarlurski Aseron, EAIRTH's Melissa Dizon and Kermit Tesoro was also featured inside as MANILA's TOP 5 Cutting Edge Designers.

Here are some some of the photos from the shoot.

Styling by Me (Ryuji Shiomitsu)
Hair and Make Up by Nina Dumpa

I loved this shoot! we did this in one of the streets in Makati near the Redlight District. I will post more photos as soon as i get them.

Dolce and Gabbana SS2011 AD Campaign

Just IN! The preview of Dolce and Gabbana's Spring 2011 AD Campaign! You just got to love the raw qualities of the photos! Photographed by Steven Klein with Models Alessandra Ambrosio, Izabel Goulard, Isabeli Fontana, Tony Ward, Sam Webb, Noah Mills and more!

Dolce and Gabbana, celebrating 25 years in the fashion business, again and again proves its rightful place in the fashion industry. Im all but loving the recent collections of Dolce and Gabbana. They (Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce) had gone back to the roots of the brand to celebrate the best of what they did and updating it to NOW. I especially love the SS2011 Menswear with sicilian references with ofcourse the perfected tailoring that D&G is famous for. Just like in D&G (with the White out) White was predominantly the color outing of the last SS2011 collections (Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, et.al). White Linen, Suede, Leather, Slouchy Knits, Distressed Jeans, Knit Polos et. al. make the SS2011 collection visually, sensually and truthfully Dolce and Gabbana.

The Dawn Treader

I had the opportunity to attend the advance screening of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader yesterday. Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox sponsored the Press Screening in the Gateway Cineplex Cinema 5 (Thanks Kevin Zaldariagga for the tickets).

look its Aslan. Nice tickets!

It was in 3D (im not much a fan of 3D... it makes me dizzy watching it) but suprisingly it was great (with Taco Bell on hand).

Im a big fan of movies (highlight on movie series) with a story that develops over time. Though i think all movies should have that quality or else it will be like stagnant water. I just love the idea of the passage of time and how time affects the characters. Seeing the characters develop and grow up (like Harry Potter which i started reading as a kid and grew up waiting for it in movies. I basically grew up with Harry lol) makes me want to read it again or religiously wait for it.

Just like the movies i usually watch Narnia has all the qualities i look for in a movie. Adventure, Action, Characters, Fantasy, Magic, Mystery, and most importantly it is based in a book. Thats about it. Oh lets not forget the hot Ben Barnes. Who wouldnt want to watch Ben Barnes as Prince Caspian?

Dont worry im not posting any spoilers. lol

I especially adored the ending credits with the original illustrations of Pauline Baynes (if im not mistaken). Thats why when i visit my favorite vintage bookstores, i always look for the first editions of books (if with illustrations the better) like the Alice in Wonderland and Voyage to the Center of the Earth i got in Book Sale with the original illustrations.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

The Chronicles of NARNIA: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will start showing in the Philippines on December 8, 2010 everywhere. Check your local malls for viewing schedules.
