Things I Need To Have # 2

There is nothing better than to have the opportunity to delve into the mind of one of the most enigmatic designers of the 20th century.

Yohji Yamamoto, the japanese avant garde designer; famous for his own line and his collaboration with Adidas (Y3), will have his first official biography released this year titled

MY DEAR BOMB.

The book is co-written by Al Mitsuda who also worked on his previous publications 'Talking to Myself' and 'Ys - Yohji Yamamoto'.

Im definitely buying this book.

The book does not offer a full chronology of his life and times but a personal retrospective with flashbacks, ditties, poems, and short fiction showcasing his design and creative process. Discussions on technique, fabric and silhouette and the like, and even the quest for the perfect placement of a garments button is recorded.

This book then is a must read. This serves as a reminder that geniuses like him (and Rei Kawakubo) still exists.

''Here are some thoughts on vision. There is not much to the act of developing a project. The important part of a creative endevour begins with the act of concentrated seeing, focused looking. Creativity will not flow from intellectual manipulations.'' - Yohji Yamamoto

A good way to start 2011, is to cover your planners.

After seeing that burn book on MEAN GIRLS, i knew i had to make my own.

It had been my tradition to always make covers for my planner. I started making it in college and i think im going to continue until i have no use for a planner anymore (i doubt it)

I just finished making my 2011 Planner today. I took inspiration from the Spring 2011 Trends (Punk and Color Blocking) in making the moodboards.

Heres the front cover

and the back cover

i even pasted an homage to Andy Warhol on the first page of the dreary planner.

Thank you Vogue, Elle, Preview and Mega for the images. They served me well. lol

so guys what do you think? have i made the right covers?

...at least now my planner is not so dreary anymore. 2011 i love you already.

KNOCKOUT

I am completely in love with the GD&TOP Volume 1 collaboration album. High High, Oh Yeah, Dont Go Home, Baby Good Night and Knockout (practically the whole album) has been on repeat since i downloaded it! They are both amazingly gorgeous, but GDragon is beyond amazing (sorry for the bias lol)

Anyway here is the MV for their new single Knockout.

The screenshots are here!!! The styling is ofcourse beyond! i love it! (cute cute cute)

We have the same MONSTER BEATS by DR. DRE. But their BEATS was customized. Love the Black and White GD&TOP Beats!

I saw that T.O.P.'s gray tweed suit here is from Instantology. You can check out the link.

I dont know if you notice, but the layouts kinda remind me of the looks of BALENCIAGA's Spring 2010, Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 (Urban, Pop and Punk collections respectively)

Spring 2010 (The Horror. The Play-Doh collection. All engineered leather, molded leather with jersey and nylon foam, laser compressed leather, bonded leather... perfect craftmanship and pure genius)

Fall 2010 (When i first saw this collection i immediately thought of the Japanese tetrapacks/ snack boxes i eat from Japan. When Nicolas Ghesguiére does conceptual, the details always tend to be a little beyond surreal, which makes it fantastically amazing!)

Spring 2011 (The Punk. According to Nicolas Ghesguiére, that this collection was a reaction to a certain kind of sexuality... and its all about individuality. The essence of Punk right? I especially loved the creeper wet-looking flat shoes (Karl Lagerfeld Fall 2008 yeah? love it)

The stylist of the KNOCKOUT music video is amazing. I heard from a fellow fan that GDragon is the stylist?! if we're not mistaken... then that makes him even HOTTER lol

though i couldnt care less what he wears! he's already HOT as is! lol

Thank you GDRAGON Singapore for the screencaps of Knockout!

and out!

Things I Need To Have # 1

To kickoff 2011.

I seriously want to have this suit jacket specially made for G-Dragon during his MBC Gayo Daejun perfomance with T.O.P.

This GD + Instantology GALAXY Printed Two Button Suit (with 2 oz padding) is amazing! I wonder how one could get a piece like this? I'll definitely buy one if this goes on sale! Instantology please! pretty please!

TOPSHOP SS 2011: New Age Constellation

Less is More.

That is what everyone (who's anyone) in the fashion industry is pushing for since the dawn of the return for the love of anything Helmut Lang. I even doubt that the appreciation for Helmut Lang, with its simplified aesthetics done in a wearable urban couture direction ever went way.

Helmut Lang SS2004: Metallic Dresses by Juergen Teller

I especially love Helmut Lang, but owning just one (a pair of black trousers) wouldnt say i love it... maybe i appreciate it or or OR i just couldnt afford it now lol

I vow to own as much Helmut Lang as i could! Hopefully in the near future! (praying to the fashion gods)

Helmut Lang FW 2010

Helmut Lang the brand is known for its simple, elegant and urban designs. It is without a doubt, that HL will influence even the next decade. As a backgrounder, Helmut Lang (the designer) re-introduced the Narrow and Tailored suit for Menswear in the 80s even before Hedi Slimane for Dior. He introduced layering of transparent fabrics in new materials and fabrics, the wet look, the paper dresses, thermal fabrics, the body-con dress, extremely shiny fabrics, streetstyle couture, couture sportswear ALL in the 90s.

Helmut Lang SS2010

TOPSHOP in turn gives us plenty of reason to follow the cult of Helmut Lang again with its Spring Summer 2011 pieces amply named NEW AGE CONSTELLATION.

The New Age Constellation Line primarily focused on Whites, Jersey Draped Dresses, Transparent Overlays, Transparency, Graduations, Long + Short, Ombres and Ombre Hair. With all of this features, it gives the mix of Urban and androgynous artistic Club Kid style a well deserved TLC.

Here are some of the photo stills from the NEW SS2011 pieces of TOPSHOP enjoy! (i especially loved the color part. That subtle splash of graduated orange and pink AND with the ombre hair with neon tips... simply gorgeous)

There are 3 more trends TOPSHOP is featuring in its SS2011 Collection (Snake Valley, Graduation, Swedish Summer) I will post and review each so stay tuned!
